Some - Any - Many

Countable nouns (substantivos contáveis) são palavras que podem ser contadas.

Os substantivos contáveis podem estar no singular acompanhados do artigo indefinido a/an, ou no plural :

I want a banana.
There’s been an accident.
I like bananas.
There are no batteries in the radio.


Usa-se SOME ou ANY com substantivos contáveis no plural:
We sang some songs.
Did you buy any apples?


Usa-se MANY (para frases na negativa e interrogativa) e FEW (= not many) com substantivos contáveis no plural:
We didn’t take many photos.
He has few friends.


Uncountable nouns (substantivos incontáveis) são palavras que permanecem sempre no singular e são incontáveis:
I like rice.
There’s sand in my shoes.
Have you got any money?


NÃO se usa a/an com substantives incontáveis, o que pode ser usado para mostrar quantidade é a... of:
A bowl of rice / a piece of music


Usa-se também SOME e ANY com substantivos incontáveis somente no singular:
We listened to some music.


Usa-se MUCH (a mesma função de many) e LITTLE (= not much) somente com substantivos incontáveis:
There wasn’t much water to have a shower.
We must be quick. There’s little time.
As bebidas são, normalmente, incontáveis:
Coffee, tea, water, juice, beer…
